The Swiss Cheese Theory Of Life Review And Giveaway

January 2, 2012

Swiss Cheese Theory Of LifeThe Swiss Cheese Theory of Life by Judith A. Belmont, MS and Lora Shor, MSW is a fun book to read.  It has some cartoons and lots of quotes. Some are outright funny while others are just amusing. Some are serious.

The book is about getting through the “holes” in life without getting stuck. It basically says that if you are not as successful as you would like to be then changing the way you think could make a huge difference.

One of the first things they talk about it is not reliving the past. Going over and over something that happened and saying “what if” does no good at all. Past is past and can’t be changed. You have to go forward.

Another thing is that people often expect things to be perfect and think they can’t be happy until things are perfect. The authors say that you need to get over this. Perfection doesn’t exist in this world and if you depend on it for happiness…you will never be happy.

The book contains stories from real people as examples and the authors offer suggestions of ways to change things.  It is broken into 12 chapters so you can work on one section at a time.

I liked it. It has some great insights. I should have taken more time with it though. It is something you need to take the time and understand and practice the suggestions they give.

From the back cover :

Take the Swiss Cheese Theory of Life Challenge!
  • Are you trying to make changes in your life, yet you find yourself digging deeper into a hole?
  • Do you “know better” but still can’t seem to get out from under your unhealthy patterns and habits?
  • Do you often have “why does this happen to me”  thinking?
  • Are you looking for happiness in all the wrong places?
  • Are you ready to make healthy changes in your life … physically, emotionally, spiritually?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions – this book is for you!

The Swiss Cheese Theory of Life is a book about resiliency. Using Swiss Cheese as a metaphor for life itself, you will explore ways to get through the holes without getting stuck in them. Swiss is not like any other cheese – and neither are you!

Well swiss cheese actually works as an analogy as hard as it is to believe.

That book sounds interesting because I actually don’t understand what’s the connection of changes in life in Swiss cheese. Maybe I have to read that book. Nice share.
