Sort of like building a house. A master carpenter and crew and put up a really great house in a couple of weeks if they want to do it quick. And it actually is well built.
But it isn’t that easy if you don’t know what you are doing.
It is the same with just about anything. It takes time to learn everything you need to know to do it well.
And even then it isn’t always easy. For me the hardest thing about blogging is coming up with something to write about.
I could just write about my house or whatever is going on with my family but I’m afraid some family members might get ticked off and never speak to me again.
Besides that I mostly don’t think what goes on around here would be all that interesting to other people. Or at least I’m not a good enough writer yet to make it interesting.
So I started doing reviews. Those are pretty easy once you have an item or book. You just have to tell what you like about the item or book.
I really want to start doing more posts that are not reviews though. Which means I have to figure out what to write about. I’m not sure why but this is incredibly hard for me.
Once I have a subject I seem to be able to come up with something. It may not be good but it is better than nothing. At least I hope it is better than nothing.
If you are a blogger who has the same problem you should check out the Because Prompts Are Fun weekly prompt and linkup over on Tales From The Nursery. You may find the prompts as helpful as I did!
What about you? Are you a blogger? Do you write at all? How do you come up with ideas for what to write about?

I’ve been blogging since 2007, and I too sometimes cannot find a thing to talk about! It’s easier now that I have a somewhat defined direction for my blog. Most of my posts are for moms, and include tips on parenting, health, travel, or entertainment.
When looking for ideas, I check parenting websites, other blogs, the news, and magazines.

Those are good ideas. I’ll have to start checking the news again. Had forgot about that!

I am getting away from the reviews as much as I can but am LOVING the content aspect again. I can write whatever I feel like writing and it’s liberating.

My problem is that I have too many ideas, and a hard time narrowing them down to what I want to write about. I find inspiration everywhere. It sounds goofy, but I look for all those weird holidays that no one knows about, like “Clean your Computer Day” or whatnot. Even if I don’t write directly to the holiday (I want evergreen content), it does give me good ideas!

Those weird holidays are pretty neat. I have seen a few of the ones you posted. That is a good idea.

I love when I hear someone say they want to blog because it’s so easy. There’s so much stereotype around blogging – I can’t help but laugh!

I Feel like writing things from the heart sometimes but worry about boring people, or over sharing. Plus worry I’m creating too many categories. I’ve decided to start another blog for DIY and home decor, so I can write more personal stuff on my main blog.

I’m scared to start another blog…if I can’t find enough to write for one…then what would I do with another? I am thinking about doing a memoir though…I was just gonna add it as a category. I don’t think I have all that many…do I?

I’m always worried about oversharing, so I really censor myself. But lately, I feel like I’m not being completely honest. One goal I have for this year is to share more “everyday stuff” with sharing too much. I hope it goes well!

Yea that is one of my concerns too. I don’t really think folks want to know about my problems with the dust bunnies…unless I could make it funny. Or really personal stuff.
Finding the perfect balance isn’t easy.

Sometimes I have too many ideas and then I have deadlines and commitments…and then I freeze and can’t do anything.

The less I think about trying to come up with something to write about the more I take in what’s happening around me and find a topic! Nothing more inspiring than life itself. :)

Blogging is not hard. I think maintaining it is a bit challenging though. I once used a 30-day blog challenge as writing prompts

Hey, I have been blogging since april of this month and I can really relate to this. It is really hard to make your blog admirable and famous for all and its hard for bloggers to have an audience. ouch
