Lost Miners

Why can’t miners use some kind of radio to mark their locations? It seems to me there would be something workable. Even if only for very short distances that would allow them to be found if there was an accident like in Utah. Or perhaps mines could have receivers at set distances and the miners carry transmitters..something. It just seems pretty danged bad with all the technology we have these days that they can’t even say where those miners are in the mine. So they basically have no idea where to look for them. Seem to me that mine must be badly organized…someone should always know where everyone is at all times. I expect they have all sorts of reasons why that isn’t possible..but they may just not be able to see the rock for the mountain.
