I received an email from Gloria Schumann a while back (more than a month!) asking me to review her first book, Called Home-Two Hearts Answer. She said it was the “first of which I intend to become many published books”. She also said it was a “sweet romance with plenty of passion and longing without sex scenes. A bit of crime and suspense are thrown into the mix to make a compelling story.”
Her email included this synopsis:
“Emma Benson’s view of life was crafted as a child by the death of her brother, the abandonment by her father and later, the man she trusted she would marry. A teacher by training, she forgoes her chosen path to save the Wisconsin farm she calls home from financial ruin.
A tornado threatens damage, but David Schlosser—back in town after years in New York writing best-selling novels—could ruin her neatly tended life. He’s looking for the charms of the small town he once rejected and finds more than he bargained for. He risks everything to get what he wants.
The storms of life throw Emma and David together and into the world of a criminal determined to ruin their plans by any means necessary. Robbery and near death connect Emma and David to their nemesis and during the throes of securing life and limb they make every effort to resist falling for one another.”
I prefer romances without sex scenes and I like mysteries pretty well…so I said yes and she sent me a PDF copy to review.
She was right it is a “sweet romance” and there are no sex scenes. The mystery/suspense was pretty good too. I thought I knew who done it up till the end…I was wrong. It is nice to be surprised sometimes. It was a pretty good story.
The characters irritated me beyond belief however. That may be because I was sick when I started reading it…so I wasn’t exactly feeling charitable. At first I thought David was just an arrogant jerk convinced he was gods gift to women and Emma just couldn’t stand up for herself. I just felt like smacking them. I did grow to like them better as the story went on.
About the Author:
From the book -“Gloria Schumanns’s love of reading romance novels brought her to a love of writing them. Keen observation of the human condition is her favorite pastime. A highly developed interest in relationships and what makes them work are central in her writing. Gloria resides in Austin, TX with her husband and three children.”
From her email- “I was and am a stay-at-home mom with three children, who loves to read and now, write. I graduated with honors from the University of Tennessee with a Logistics degree. The process of writing all the way through editing and even parts of promoting thrill me. Getting oneself published is just the first step; the second is getting your name out there–this one I find more difficult than the first, but working at it every chance I get.”
