The Bell Tolls Blog Tour

The Bell Tolls cover. The Bell Tolls is a really good read. I loved Hollis Morgan. I’m wanting to get the other books in the series, and I really want to read the next book. I hope there are a lot more to come.

Hollis has been through the wringer. She is someone I can relate to because of that. Her life hasn’t been anywhere near perfect. She is just regular folks like us. She has trouble with her family and with her job too.

She is also really smart and determined. And she sees through people.

The mystery in this book was really well done too. You don’t know “who done it” right off the bat. In fact you don’t know till pretty much right at the end. And the main mystery isn’t the only mystery.  There are several things going on at the same time, and all interesting.

This story will keep you interested and entertained.  You should read it!

 About the Book:

Hollis Morgan has survived imprisonment, received a pardon and persevered to finally become a probate attorney. Tough as she is, her newest case will further test her mettle. She discovers her client, Matthias Bell, is a deceased blackmailer whose last wish was to return the damaging documents he collected, letting his victims off the hook. It falls to Hollis to give them the good news. But it’s revealed that Bell was murdered, and the victims of “Bell’s tolls” are now suspects.

Hollis’ white-collar criminal past has left her with keen survival instincts. A gifted liar she knows a liar when she meets one. A lot of people in this case are lying and one is a killer.

On top of that, she’s also representing a dying stripper, a wealthy widow whose estranged daughter spurns her attempts at reconciliation, but whose husband sees the potential inheritance as mending all wounds particularly financial ones.

Clients aside, Hollis is defensive and wary. Her mother, who hasn’t spoken to her for years, needs a kidney, and Hollis is a match, but neither are ready to put away the past. With Hollis’ fiancé and emotional support off on an undercover mission for Homeland Security, she must count on her own survival instincts. She is swept along on an emotional roller coaster as her absent love and her family’s coldness take their own toll.

Work is her salvation. The specter of a killer keeps her focused. Hollis has always had to rely on her wits, but now she finds that others who don’t have her well-being in mind are relying on them as well.

Genre: Resource/Educational
Publisher: Xlibris
Release date: July 20, 2017
Tour dates: Sept 4 to 22, 2017

Book Description:

In Journey’s End, we write about death, dying, and end of life issues. We attempt to define and describe these real-life circumstances, and we discuss ways to proactively deal with them. Multiple personal and professional perspectives provide valuable insights.

What is dying like for dying persons, for loved ones, and for those who lend support in the process? Each experience will have unique qualities. Everyone dies in his own way, on his own schedule. While we explore the dying process, we make no assumptions about how any particular death will unfold.

Grief and bereavement support, training tools, and educational resources are included.

Interview:

What made you write a book about death, dying, and the end of life?

Julie and I have been exposed to death through personal and professional experiences and we realized that many people shy away from the topic and even fear it. The word ‘death’ scares people. But we realized, death is part of the life cycle. “To be born, we will die.” As far as we know, there is not away to escape reality.

Do you have other professions besides writing?

Victoria is a social worker and case manger with seniors for the past 17 years. She just launched a business called NorthernMSW which will focus on raising awareness, education, and trainings for professionals and non-professionals along with facilitating discussion groups on the topics of death and dying. www.NorthernMSW.com

Julie has her own business called Create Write Enterprises where she assists with writing, editing and coaching for personal or business projects- (http://www.createwriteenterprises.com/)

How long have you been writing?

Victoria- I have been writing since I was a child; poetry, short stories and the beginning of a book when I was a teenager.

In university, I was required to have a miner as well as a major and I chose English.

Julie- Starting in Grade 1 or 2. Poetry, journaling, fiction, non-fiction, then teachiner of writing. 55 years in all!

What is your next project?

We are at work on book 2 as we call it currently. This book will also focus on death, dying, and the end of life, but from the perspectives of culture, ethnicity, and religion. We are aiming for a summer 2018 publication. Out of the 28 perspectives we are seeking for this book, we already have 13 committed individuals. It will cover the major religions of the world along with various ethnic and cultural perspectives.

Favorite Dessert-

Victoria- brownies or fruit

Julie- Dark chocolate anything

Meet the Authors:

Victoria has a master of social work degree. She has worked as a case manager with older adults for the past seventeen years and as a group facilitator. Her past work experience was as a therapist with children and families, and as a case manager for adults with mental health issues. She just launched a consulting business, NorthernMSW to focus on end of life issues, planning, training, and advocacy, along with memoir writing and life legacy writing.

Julie was inspired equally by her professional backgrounds as a biomedical researcher and long time educator. Julie values open and lively discussions based on interview and research findings, trends in health and wellness, and exciting new modalities of treatment and professional education. She believes it will be through such discussions that we will create new and more satisfying cultural paradigms within which we may live all the days of our lives with dignity and quality of care.

The Pursuit Of Lady Harriet Book Blast

The Pursuit of Lady Harriet by Rachael Anderson.

The Pursuit of Lady Harriett by Rachael Anderson

When wills clash and hearts collide, who will reign victorious?

Termed an Incomparable during her first London season, Lady Harriett Cavendish is beautiful, spirited, and confident, capturing the attention of a great many suitors. Unfortunately, they all failed to capture her attention, and she concluded the season as unattached as she’d begun it.

Only weeks prior to her second season, Harriett encounters Lieutenant Christopher Jamison while visiting Tanglewood Manor. Recently returned from war, the lieutenant is everything that Harriett’s previous suitors were not. He’s arrogant, ungentlemanly, irritating, and challenges her at every opportunity. When he goes too far, Harriett decides that it’s time to turn the tables on him. But as she sets out to put the lieutenant in his place once and for all, she discovers there is more to him than meets the eye, and when it comes to matters of the heart, she has no control whatsoever.

The corners of the man’s eyes crinkled in a mild show of amusement. “Lady Harriett, I presume?” Rather than look at her with appreciation as most men did, he appeared amused.

At her nod, he tucked his hands behind his back, remaining a few steps above her. “I am Lieutenant Christopher Jamison, an old friend of Jonathan’s.”

“I was expecting you days ago,” she answered. “Lord Jonathan charged me with the unhappy task of informing you he and his new bride are currently away on their wedding trip. He is sorry he cannot be here to meet with you and has asked that I relay his apologies.”

“May I inquire as to how long they will be away?” he asked.

No, you may not, she wanted to say. Her neck was beginning to ache from looking up at him, but she forced her gaze to remain steady. “They expected to be gone a fortnight, sir.”

“And they have been gone how long, exactly?”

She felt an unaccountable hesitancy to tell him. “A week.”

“Ah.” He sounded disappointed but seemed to take the news in stride, glancing at Charlie as though wondering whether he ought to retrieve his horse or not. Harriett prayed that he would.

When his gaze strayed back to her, he took the unwelcome, and ungentlemanly, liberty of perusing her figure. When his eyes met hers again, his lips twitched into a slight smile. “Forgive me, my lady, but you appear to have had a run-in with a mud puddle and lost.”

How kind of him to point that out. Harriett kept her hands at her side rather than attempt to brush the dirt from her face and pelisse yet again. The damage was done, and no amount of brushing or shaking would remove the muck. What she needed was a hot bath and a change of clothes.

“Actually, sir, I was merely an innocent bystander.”

“Indeed?”

She picked up her skirts and ascended the steps, stopping on the stair above him so that she was eye level with him. “Are you always such a reckless rider, sir? Do you not pay heed to your surroundings?”

“Of course I do.”

“If you had, you would have seen me standing at the side of the road and, I would hope, thought to slow your animal down so as to not splash mud all over my pelisse.”

Her chilly set down did not have the desired effect. He did not appear the least bit repentant. Rather, he looked ready to burst into laughter. “And your face, apparently.” He leaned forward and squinted. “If I’m not mistaken, there is a splash or two of mud on your bonnet as well.”

Harriett glared at him. “How observant you are, Lieutenant Jamison. One can only wonder why you didn’t put that skill to good use earlier. If you had, perhaps my pelisse, face, and bonnet would still be clean.”

“I am always observant, my lady,” he said. “But might I suggest that if you would like to be noticed at the side of the road, you should wear a color that does not blend so perfectly with your surroundings. That particular shade of green looks quite lovely on you, but only someone with the eyes of an eagle would have spotted you in front of a landscape of evergreens.”

Harriett opened her mouth to respond, but no words were forthcoming. The man did not even attempt to behave like a gentleman. How could he be so . . . so . . .

“Have you no apology to offer, sir?” she finally spluttered.

“Oh, did I not apologize? Forgive me.”

“For what? Forgetting to apologize or for not doing so in the first place?”

EXCERPT

“Probably not,” I conceded. “Looks like I can kiss my dreams of being on the PGA tour good-bye. What am I doing wrong?”

“Now you’re asking?” Andy laughed. “On the last hole?”

“Better late than never.” I shrugged and gave him a toothy grin.

“Hang on a second.” He sank his last ball in two, then waved me over. “Ok, come here. Let Lilly and Jake go while I show you what to do.” I walked to the edge of the green, club in hand. He stood close behind me, wrapping his arms around mine. Then he gently positioned my hands on the handle of the club. I’d always thought it was cheesy in movies when a guy showed a girl how to do something rather than just explaining it. The move was so obvious. But now that I was in that very situation, Andy’s body pressed against mine, his yummy cologne assaulting my nose, I didn’t care if it was cheesy.

“First of all, you’re gripping the club too tightly. You need to relax.” He leaned over my shoulder and spoke softly against my ear. His breath tickled my neck, and my brain got fuzzy. “Next, you need to stop swinging like you’re trying to drive the green. You have to finesse a putter. Swing it more like a pendulum and less like a baseball bat.” He chuckled, then started swaying my arms back and forth with his. “Like this, can you feel the difference?”

“Mmm-hmm,” I lied. I was trying to pay attention, honestly, I was. But his closeness was making it extremely difficult. I couldn’t feel anything beyond the warmth of his body and the softness of his lips grazing my ear. Was he trying to help me or distract me? My mind wandered until he pulled away and walked around to face me. “Finally, you need to aim.” He smiled. “That’s when you look at the ball, then look at the hole, then try to put the ball in the hole.”

Infusion By Alyssa Thiessen Blog Tour

Infusion by Allyssa Thiessen Blog Tour banner.

Infusion by Allyssa Thiessen book cover.

I got into Infusion pretty quick. After all the action starts right there on the first page, with Rachel lying on her back in the rain after being shot.

The action was pretty much non stop from then on too. It kept my interest all the way through to the end. Especially with the unexpected little twists that popped up.

I liked the idea behind the whole story too. That there are “aliens”? that would love to take over our world, and make an even bigger mess of it than what we are doing ourselves.

Good read.

Excerpt:

If I’d known I was going to die on my sixteenth birthday, I probably would’ve spent a little time on my makeup that morning. As it was, I lay in the field, cold, and all I could think was that I hadn’t even bothered to run a brush through my hair before I left. I mean, at the very least, I could’ve worn earrings. It started to rain, softly at first, and I felt my teeth chattering. No, not felt. Heard. I heard something else, too. Jared sobbing. Loudly.

It was funny—I’d known him all my life, and I’d never heard him cry before. Would he be crying so desperately if he hadn’t been the one who shot me?

About the book:

Infusion by Alyssa Thiessen
Publication Date: July 14, 2017

Rachel is ordinary. Average. Utterly unremarkable… until her best friend shoots her on her 16th birthday and a stranger brings her from death’s doorstep with an infusion of his own DNA.

Then everything gets weird.

She heals impossibly fast. She senses the thoughts of others. She sees places and horrifying creatures that couldn’t possibly exist, and her new friend Tyler is convinced she’s destined to save the world from their invasion.

Can she trust him? Can she trust herself? How’s she supposed to stop inter-dimensional invaders when she can barely deal with high school?

Ready or not, here they come.

The Rules Of Persuasion By Amity Hope Blog Tour

The Rules of Persuasion book cover.

I enjoyed reading this one.

Meg is a girl I would have really liked if she went to my school. She was sort of funny, and has a bit of attitude. She got pretty sassy with Luke a few times.

Luke not so much, just because he’s a jock. Finding out that he was hiding some bad crap made me think he wasn’t so bad. The way he blackmailed Meg had me mad, but he did have a reason. I ended up really liking him.

The romance is really sweet, and there wasn’t even any heavy petting. I liked that.

The story will keep you wondering right up till the end about how it will all turn out. Good read. Great for a rainy afternoon or a lazy day at the beach.

THE LOVELY BONES meets ALL THE RAGE in a searing, heartbreaking contemporary story of a lost teenager, and the town she leaves behind.

Ellie Frias disappeared long before she vanished.

Tormented throughout middle school, Ellie begins her freshman year with a new look: she doesn’t need to be popular; she just needs to blend in with the wallpaper.

But then the unthinkable happens and Ellie is trapped after a brutal assault. She wasn’t the first victim and now she watches it happen again and again. She tries to hold on to her happier memories in order to get past the cold days, waiting for someone to find her.

The problem is, no one searches for a girl they never noticed in the first place.

TE Carter’s stirring and visceral debut not only discusses and dismantles rape culture but also makes you slow down and think about what it is to be human.

Nobody noticed me as I cut through the room. I made my way outside, into the cold. Spring was playing games with us. Weeks earlier, it had snuck in overnight, erasing our memory of winter in a matter of hours. When we’d gone to bed, winter had lingered in the snowbanks and in the way the trees still hunched over from the weight of it. And then suddenly, spring. We woke to birds singing, birds who appeared to have been shipped overnight on a secret train, and we remembered music.

But now, winter was trying to force a comeback. Everyone outside stood looking at the pool, wondering what happened. I was shivering, wearing a skirt and thin shirt I’d borrowed from Kate when spring was still a promise.

I saw him from the periphery. From the in-between where the people inside faded into the background, but the people outside were only figures in the night. It made sense; I was a periphery girl.

“Hey,” I said to his back.

When he turned to look at me, I swear the light from the porch surrounded him. But I think I made that up. I think I want to remember him that way. I want to believe there was something that made him special. I want to believe that loneliness doesn’t just mess with our hearts.

“Ellie! You came,” Caleb said.

“I said I would.”

“I know. I wasn’t sure, though. I worried. You’re late.”

I’d walked to the party, after telling my dad I was going to a friend’s. He wouldn’t have stopped me from going to Gina Lynn’s. I didn’t have other friends, so it wouldn’t have made a difference if I’d said her name. But, for some reason, I lied. I lied and I don’t know why I did.

“Yeah, well, I was doing things.”

He laughed. “Mysterious things. Of course. I’d expect nothing less from my Elusive Ellie.”

My. I heard it. The claim he laid on me. I smiled at the word.

He moved closer and I stepped back. It was automatic. Since earlier in the week, by my locker, I hadn’t stopped thinking about the possibility. But now that he was close again, I was scared. I was afraid of the way I knew I’d hurt if he waited months to talk to me again. I didn’t want to fall for a guy just because he’d smiled at me and said my name a few times. I was afraid of what would happen if there was more to it than that, but I was also afraid of how I’d feel if there wasn’t.

“I don’t think I’m supposed to be here,” I said.

I’d always imagined being wanted. Of someone loving me. Choosing me. But here was this boy and if he kissed me, I knew I’d always worry about going back to not being wanted.

TE Carter was born in New England and has lived in New England for pretty much her entire life. Throughout her career, she’s done a lot of things, although her passion has always been writing. When she’s not writing, she can generally be found reading classic literature, obsessing over Game of Thrones (she’s one hundred percent Team Lannister), playing Xbox, organizing her comic collection, or binge watching baking competitions. Praise for the Book
“I highly recommend reading this book. The story is fantastic, the dates memorable, and the ending is what you decide. I was so happy to choose which guy Chelsea ends up with, I felt even more involved in her story.” –Stacy Lybbert, Amazon reviewer

“Having read plenty of fiction with endings I didn’t love, this book was refreshing and fun. And having been married for a couple of decades and out of the dating scene, it was eye opening to get of glimpse of the new world of online dating and how difficult it can be.” –Holly Frasche, Amazon reviewer

“There was plenty of humour throughout the story and I shared some of the jokes with friends and family who all laughed as well. I would like to see more books like this. It lived up to its description and recommendation and I’m glad I read it. I would recommend it. It was just what I was looking for: a nice, light read with no heavy stuff.” –Autism Mom, Amazon reviewer

“I especially liked how real and well developed the characters were. The main character has dating experiences that anyone in the dating world can relate with, as well as experiences that no one would want, and ones that are unique to our age of the internet, taking the reader on a ride that is entertaining and heart warming.” –Leilani Peterson, Amazon reviewer.

Excerpt
I would rather clean a gas station bathroom with my bare hands than be here right now. I hate blind dates. I don’t know how I let myself get talked into one. As soon as married people find out I’m single, it’s like they feel it is their personal duty to find my husband. You’re single? I have a second cousin who is single. I should set you two up!
