Take A Deep Breath

Now take another deep breath. Do you know how wonderful it is to be able to do that?

Breathing is amazing. Most of the time it happens without you even paying attention. You don’t have to think about it. You can just go diddy bopping along, and not worry about it at all.

And you don’t worry about it. Or even think about it. Till you can’t do it. Then it becomes the most important thing in your world, and it is really hard to pay attention to other things.

Most of the time I’m fine, and only have a problem if I try to walk too fast or something.

The last few days though with all this rain, the humidity is high, and that seems to make it worse. Just breathing is work. Doing anything else doesn’t seem worth it.

Right now I’m on Advair which helps a lot. So long as the insurance covers it. If the insurance stops covering it like they did the Dulera that I was taking before, then I’m pretty much screwed.

Anyone without insurance or a lot of money is in that situation, because all of those medicines seem to be hugely expensive.

So just take the time to stop and breath every now and then. Maybe smell some flowers, or coffee, and just appreciate how blessed you are.

Bench my father made out of a log.

The Body Changes As You Age

I’m sure you all were aware of that already. To some extent anyway. But did you know that your nose, ears, and feet all keep getting bigger as you get older?

That means that hearing aid wearers have to get new ear molds every so often.

Which can be a hassle. The last ear molds for my ears had to be done twice(so far- I hope that is all).

If the ear molds don’t fit then the hearing aid will make noise all the time. It will drive your friends and family batty. You too if you can hear it. And they won’t sound right either.

The worst thing is it will make your ears hurt really bad. If you happen to be a menopausal woman, or suffering from PMS, or just tired…well lets just say having sore ears do not make you any easier to get along with.

Badly fitting ear molds can also actually rub sores on your ears if you wear them anyway. So you have to keep going back to the hearing aid store till they get it right.

Like I said – a hassle.

That also means is you have to get bigger shoes…wider anyway.

My feet in my Musewear flip-flops.My feet are quite big enough already. I hope they don’t get much bigger or I won’t be able to wear any shoes at all. It is already hard to find shoes that don’t make my bunions hurt.

As for my nose. I don’t really care how big it gets. It holds my glasses up just fine and it works real well for smelling roses (and coffee). So long as it keeps doing it’s job I’m happy.

How’s about you?

Need To Keep Track Of Medicines?

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

Picture of a Daybox by Sabi. The Daybox by Sabi can help.

This is a weekly pill organizer that holds pills for each day plus an extra to carry with you.

Each day has three separate pill holders for folks that have to take pills three times a day.

My grandmother would have loved this thing. She used to have problems keeping her pills straight and would get the morning pills mixed up with the night pills.

With the Daybox that won’t happen because you have them separated for each day so once they are gone it is obvious which ones have been taken.

My husband loves the one we got to review. He only has to take his meds once a day though so he is using the extra holders to add two extra weeks to his organized pills.

A picture of our Daybox by Sabi.

So he can fill this up and know that when he is on his last week he only has one weeks worth of pills left and needs to make sure he gets refills.

I really like the way the day boxes fit together. They hook together so you can have a weeks worth or just a couple of days worth with you if you go somewhere. If you are just going to town and will be gone when it is time to take your pills you can just take that days box with you.

It is easy and convenient!

Sabi has a blog you can visit for more information and they can be found on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.  And if you would like to buy your own you can do that here.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Looking For Egg Recipes

Since I got rid of one of my roosters (and the weather has improved) my hens have started laying again.
A picture of some of my chickens.

I’m getting 6 to 8 eggs a day.Fresh laid eggs from my hens.

I did find one easy recipe online that is basically a baked omelet.

It was on one of the recipe sites and I can’t remember which one. I did not (of course) follow all the instructions for that recipe but what I ended up with is really good.

You mix up a bunch of eggs (I’ve been using 5 or 6). Chop some bell peppers (any and all colors) and onion. Tear up some spinach leaves. Chop up some cheese – I’ve been using a Monterrey and Colby mix.

The instructions I read called for just mixing the stuff up and putting it in the oven.

I have been cooking the onion and bell pepper a bit first and then adding the spinach leaves and cooking them till wilted. Then adding the cheese and pouring the eggs over that and sticking it in the oven.

My husband is loving that. Which is a good thing for him because he doesn’t eat enough vegetables and this is one way of getting him to eat them. Besides eggs are a great source of protein and this is a pretty healthy breakfast! Or dinner even.

I need a few more good recipes that use eggs though. The eggs are already getting ahead of us and when the other hens start to laying more regular we will be swamped…and the neighbors will only take so many.

Do you have any good recipes? Preferably easy to make.

Please leave a comment with a link to any good recipes you know of. Or just tell us how to make it if it is really easy!

Taking Care Of Your Teeth

I had another dentist appointment yesterday afternoon. That one was just for a check up and cleaning.

Last year I had crowns put on a couple of teeth and had treatments for gum disease.

Gum disease can sneak up on you if you are not paying attention and taking care of your teeth.

I had not been flossing on a regular basis and sometimes only brushed my teeth once a day. So I ended up having cavities and gum disease.

So take it from me. It is definitely worth the time and effort to brush and floss. Unless of course you want to lose some or all your teeth before you are even 50.

Those treatments cost quite a bit and you have to have them every three months for a while. They also give you some mouthwash type stuff you have to use for a while that kills bacteria in your mouth. That is in addition to the brushing at least twice a day.

I have been doing much better and the dentist says the bone around my teeth seems to have fully recovered and I did NOT have any problems this time around.

Except a possible loose crown. I have to go back in a month and have that checked.

If my teeth had better care in the beginning so many of them wouldn’t have crowns which cost about $1000 bucks each and the ones that are missing would still be there.

So let this be a lesson to you! Take care of your teeth!

Need Help With Inflammation?

Lot’s of people have a problem with inflammation. Especially those of us who are past 40. My joints are starting to get a bit swollen sometimes.

Other parts of the body can have problems with inflammation too though. The lungs, the arteries, the digestive tract, and even the cells themselves. This inflammation is one of the causes of  problems such as allergies, bloating and cramping, heart problems, and overall fatigue.

And of course all that inflammation hurts! So anything that helps reduce the inflammation would be good.

Of course you can get some prescriptions or even just take aspirin but lots of people would rather find other ways of dealing with the problem if at all possible. After all you can only take so much medicine before it starts doing damage too.

If you are one of those people you might want to check out Nopalea.

Nopalea is a wellness drink containing nutrients that have been proven to help reduce inflammation. Reduceing the inflammation would certainly help you feel better.

It is made from the fruit of the Nopal cactus. The Nopal cactus has been used in folk medicines for centuries. Research has shown that the bioflavonoids contained in this fruit is a powerful antioxidant that helps the body reduce inflammation and remove toxins.

This wellness drink contains no added sugar, artificial sweeteners, flavors, or colors. It is sweetened with Agave nectar which is a natural form of sugar. It also has no preservatives.

Since it has no preservatives it needs to be refrigerated and you should drink it within 30 days of opening the bottle. You should start off drinking 3 to 6 ounces daily and lower that to 1 to 3 ounces after the first month.

They company suggests you consult your doctor before starting it if you have any medical conditions or if you are taking any medicines even though there are no known contraindications. It is better to be safe than sorry!

You can try a 32 oz. bottle free by calling 1-800-280-8518. You will only have to pay the shipping and handling cost of $9.95.

What Does Well-Being Mean To You?

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of My Well-Being Powered by Humana for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Well-Being isn’t just aboiut physical health. It is also about emotional and psychological health. It can also include financial health. After all if you don’t have the money to take care of health issues that will definitly impact your well-being.

The nice folks at Humana have created a website called My Well-Being. The site has a well-being assessment you can take. The assessment covers several areas including health, finances, and play. My average was 3.2 and my lowest score was on financial section which sounds about right to me.

You can get a FREE Dummies book for signing up. I chose the Well-Being for Dummies book but they also have Retirement for Dummies and Living the Boomer Life for Dummies.

This site has some excellent articles on health and wellness in all areas. They are articles about debt, retirement, volunteering, and entertaining.

There are also some games you can play. I tried the Memory Matrix which is supposed to help improve your memory and only made it to level 7…so far. Other games are supposed to help improve your ability to pay attention, think flexibly and quickly, and improve your vocabulary. Besides all that…they are fun!

There are also quite a few videos you can watch to learn things such as this one:

About MyWell-Being  on Vimeo.

I really like the iTriage Sympton Checker too. It lets you look up a symtom and find out the possible causes of it.

My Well-Being is a very useful website. You should check it out!

New Nopalea Ultra For Help With Inflamation

New Nopalea Ultra For Help With Inflamation

Nopalea(No-pah lay’uh) is a wellness drink that comes from the fruit of the Nopal Cactus(Opuntia Ficus Indica).

This is the prickly pear cactus found in the western U.S and other areas of the Americas.  The Nopal cactus contains a lot of rare antioxidants called Betalains that have been scientifically proven to help reduce inflamation in the body.

And now the cactus has been made into a drink which also contains these rare antioxidants. The drink is sweetened with Agave nectar and contains no preservatives.

Many people don’t really like to take medications. I would rather not myself but sometimes it seems like there isn’t much choice. If you want to be (relatively) pain free then you don’t have a lot of choices.

Inflamation is one of the leading causes of pain. If your pain is caused by or made worse by inflamation in the body then reducing the inflamation can also help reduce the pain.

The betalains in this anti-inflamatory wellness drink can help the body reduce inflamation, get of toxins, and promote optimal health.

The product comes from a 12 year old company with a mission to help people create greater wellness and wealth in thier lives. It has a 60 day gaurantee and has sold over 3 million bottles so far.

You can get a 32-ounce bottle of Nopalea to try for yourself by calling 1-800-203-7063. You just have to pay the $9.95 shipping and handling.

Cafe Well is a social network that offers corporations wellness programs that actually work.

This social network provides many features to encourage you to get well and stay well. Some of the features you can find on Café Well are discussion groups, expert advice,  and some fun challenges.

One such fun challenge is the Race To The Moon for HealthAmerica members. This program provides free wireless pedometers to participants to track their steps. They are rewarded for meeting milestones and for their total steps.

This program actually works because people can see their progress and they get rewarded for it! People in the program are choosing to get up and take a walk instead of more sedentary activities.

Part of the reason for it’s success is the social networking. Members get support from other members which includes encouragement and advice.

Members can also challenge other members to reach a certain goal. Goals can be to lose weight, to work out a certain number of times a week, or even just to walk a certain number of steps.

Competing with and being answerable to friends would make it a lot more fun. I would challenge my friends to lose 30 lbs in the next 3 months. Knowing my friends are involved as well would make me much more likely to stick to it.

Fit Moms For Life By Dustin Maher Review And Giveaway

Fit Moms For Life By Dustin Maher Review And Giveaway

Fit MomFit Moms For Lifes For Life: How to Have Endless Energy to Outplay your Kids is a book about getting fit for the rest of your life. It is addressed to moms but it will work for anyone and everyone who wants to do the work.

Dustins approach to fitness is sustainable over the long haul and can easily fit into a busy life.

It covers what Dustin calls the five pillars of health: your mindset, nutrition, strength training, burst training, and environment.

I really liked that this book covers all the bases. It talks about nutrition and gives some tips on how to change your diet to be healthier and lose weight.

Some of those tips are to NEVER eat carbs by themselves, to always eat breakfast, to eat several smaller meals during the day, and to drink lots of water.

The books includes sample exercises as well. These can be done at home and the equipment for them can be gotten for around $50 or less. Which is really great for me since I don’t have the money to join a gym right now.

There are lots of stories from Moms who have changed their lives along with tips from each one that  might be helpful to other moms. I really liked those. Several of the women were my age or close to it. So it isn’t just the “young” women that can do this.

I am planning to try this program myself. I have to start slow because I’m not at all fit at the moment. This looks like a really good program for people like me. It would work for anyone though…no matter where you start from.
