Send Me An Ice Cream Man

Picture of an Ice Cream Truck. When I was little a truck similar to the one in the picture would come by my grandmothers house just about every day. Definitely every Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

She lived across the street from the main park in town. The one with the swimming pool and the baseball field and the tennis courts. And of course the playground.

So the Ice Cream Man always had plenty of business there. The neighbor hood around the park had lots of kids too so he probably didn’t have to go too far to sell everything.

I can’t remember if an Ice Cream Truck ever came by my moms house.  There wouldn’t have been as much business there for sure.

The one at the park would get mobbed.  We would wait till it was in front of my grandmothers house and by the time it got to us there would usually be at least 6 kids waiting.

The last time I laid eyes on one of those was a few years back. It was cruising through another park.

Do they even come by peoples houses anymore? Or only go to parks?

I would love to have one of those come by my house here. I want an ice cream bar.

Musewear Flip Flops

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

A picture of my Musewear Flip Flops. These Flip Flops from Musewear are the first ones I have actually worn in years. I have been wearing them out in the yard when I’m working on my garden stuff. Especially when doing the watering. That way it doesn’t matter if I get my feet and shoes wet.

They would be great for poolside or beach wear too.

I like that they are really well made. The sole is thick and doesn’t feel flimsy. These should last for a long time. And they look good on my feet.

My Musewear Flip Flops.

I really like the quote on them. I picked the Gods Gift Flip Flops with the Elenor Powell quote : “What we are is Gods gift to us, what we become is our gift to God”.

They have a lot of neat quotes to choose from or you can get some with your Zodiac sign on them.  The Zodiac pairs also contain a list of attributes that describe that sign.

A really great thing about these Flip Flops is that Musewear has pledged to donate 15% of their profits to some really great programs including The Nature Conservancy, the Best Friends Animal Society, and Amnesty International.

These are made in Brazil in a factory that has fair worker conditions and a decent green policy. And they are eco friendly! What’s not to like?

You can order your own pair on their website. Please “like” them on Facebook and “follow” on Twitter.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

The Sun Is Hot And So Is Concrete

While I was in town yesterday doing our weekly shopping we stopped at an auto parts place downtown.

There was a guy there on a bike and he had his dog with him. It was just about noon and the sun had been shining pretty bright all morning. The temperature got up into the mid 90’s.

Maybe the fella lived close to the place and didn’t have far to go. I don’t know. It doesn’t really matter….it doesn’t take long to burn your feet if you step on hot concrete or asphalt.

And dogs paws can burn too. It probably does take them longer to burn than human feet since they are not running around in shoes all the time.

People used to go barefoot a lot but I haven’t seen anyone out and about without shoes in ages. Not even kids. So people tend to forget what the actual ground feels like.

If you are wondering…go walk in the road without your shoes this afternoon…or on any sunny day. See how it feels.

And be careful when you take your fur babies out for walks or rides.

And if they are outside make sure they have some shade and plenty of water available.

That goes for all animals not just dogs. My chickens were having a hard time yesterday. I put some fresh cool water out during the middle of the day and they went wading.

I wouldn’t mind going wading myself. I’m thinking about getting me a kiddie pool…just for wading.

What do you think?

Make Your Own Snow Cones!

Make Your Own Snow Cones!

You can make your own snow cones with a Carnival Style Snow Cone Maker. I want one! Isn’t that cute? I remember snow cone stands from fairs and carnivals years ago.  This one will fit on my kitchen counter. I already have a snow cone maker that shaves ice into little bits. But it isn’t this cute. It is just plain black and doesn’t have the holders.

I guess I can’t really justify buying another one just because it’s cute. However, if you don’t already have a snow cone maker…well you know you NEED one! Really you do…just ask your kids. Or grand-kids.  They are having a %15 off sale right now too.

Nostalgia Electrics™ SCM-502 Vintage Collection™ Carnival Style Snow Cone Maker Now 15% Off! Valid through August 2nd. No promo code necessary. The snow cone maker I have is a Hamilton Beach. It works well except for the ice cubes getting stuck every now and then. It doesn’t quite shave the ice but does get it really small. I have been making snow cones just about every day lately since it has been so hot. I usually wait till just after taking care of the chickens because it is really hot out there! Eating a snow cone can really cool you off! I don’t use the snow cone syrup though. Most of that seems too sweet to me. I make mine with Tang. Or cool aid. It works.

Do you make snow cones? What are you doing to stay cool in this heat?
